After getting the initial fitness qualifications that are required in your country, the next step is to contact the Les Mills Agent in your country about training in one or more of the Les Mills programs. The trainings are held either over 2 or 3 days, the 2 day programs are over 1 weekend, and the 3 days are over 2 weekends in most countries, but over 3 consecutive days in the USA. Some suggestions from other instructors who have done the training. DO - Do as many classes as you can prior to the training. The more familiar you are with the program, the less you will have to think about learning the program and the format, and so the more you can concentrate instead on learning to teach.
- Eat well beforehand. The training is gruelling, with a challenge which is usually held on the second day. You need energy and stamina for the weekend.
- Bring spare clothes and a towell as you will be exercising the entire weekend.
- Take light food with you. Fresh fruit, dried fruit, lots of water, maybe sports drinks.
DON'T - Plan to go out the Saturday night of your training. You will be expected to learn 1 track and watch the DVD and learn your technique.
- Bring any worries or inhibitions with you. Leave those at home!
Added to this, each Les Mills agent has specific requirements to become a Les Mills instructor and to maintain this qualification. These requirements are covered individually below.
